Molton Brown has opened its first UK Scent Pavilion at Bluewater in Kent, introducing a new store format centered on how fragrance integrates into daily routines. The Kao-owned brand has restructured its Bluewater location into three distinct areas: the Cleanse Bathroom showcasing bath and body products as part of morning rituals, the Wear Dressing Room for personal fragrance exploration, and the Live Living Room dedicated to home scent.

The three spaces aim to shift customer navigation from traditional product categories to lifestyle-based experiences, reflecting how shoppers incorporate scent into their lives. Mark Johnson, President at Molton Brown Global, explained the format “translates the feeling, world and lifestyle behind our fragrances.”

Scent Stylists provide personalized guidance from a dedicated workspace at the pavilion’s heart. The design draws on the brand’s London heritage, featuring warm canvas, natural timber, and sculptural clay elements that create an inviting atmosphere for fragrance discovery. Bluewater was chosen for its established Molton Brown customer base and experienced store team, allowing the brand to gather feedback as the concept evolves.

The pavilion represents the first phase of a broader rollout of Molton Brown’s new design principles across standalone and wholesale locations in the UK and internationally. The opening follows Laura Hogan’s appointment as Chief Marketing Officer, tasked with leading the brand’s global vision and international growth strategy. Johnson described the launch as marking “the start of an exciting new chapter” and emphasized it as a foundational move toward building long-term growth. The initiative aligns with Kao’s strategy to focus on six cosmetics brands, including Molton Brown, CurĂ©l, and SENSAI, for global expansion.

The Cleanse Bathroom area features a dedicated mirror station where guests can test bath products while experiencing complementary fragrances. In the Wear Dressing Room, testers are displayed alongside clothing racks to show how scents pair with different occasions. The Live Living Room section includes furniture arrangements that demonstrate home fragrance placement throughout living spaces.

Kao Corporation expressed confidence that this experiential approach will strengthen Molton Brown’s position in the premium beauty market. The pavilion concept will expand to additional UK locations later this year, with international rollouts planned for 2024. Johnson noted that customer feedback from the Bluewater trial will inform refinements before the wider implementation begins.
